Jefferson, Madison & Their Evangelical Pals
After asking the Separation of Church and State question, I came across an article worth reading. It is a good history lesson (from a liberal perspective) of the politics of the establishment clause of the constitution. I disagree with the writers conclusion that there has been a shift in conservative Christian opinion from the 18th century to today. I don't see any hypocrisy in being against the establishment of a state religion (or forced tithe through taxation) and yet being FOR the outlawing of abortion / gay marriage / allowing school prayer. Laws can enforce a moral code of conduct (murder is bad, therefore outlaw it) without infringing on the faith that promotes that morality. I don't see a double standard, but the article is a good read nonetheless if you've got 10 minutes for a little American history. HERE IS THE ARTICLE.

A tour of Monticello
Monticello is the plantation that Thomas Jefferson built and lived on. It is the building you see on the back of a nickel.
We'll post some pictures of the Nutty family's day (including Grama and Grumpy Nutt).
One thing that caught my attention during the tour, was the importance the guide put on the phrase "Separation of Church and State". She must have mentioned that 5 times, and said how important it was to Jefferson. As far as I know she said the phrase 4 times more in that 10 minutes than Jefferson did in his whole life. I believe that the only time he used the phrase was IN THIS LETTER. Does anyone else know differently?

Where's the catch?
CNN does an article on homeschooling without any negative bias? I must be missing something in THIS ARTICLE. Aren't they supposed to talk about those backward homeschoolers who keep their kids at home to hide them from the authorities?

What I Have Learned In 15 Years
I read a good article, this is how it starts off:
It was 15 years ago today that our 8-year-old son Ryan suffered a severe brain injury that left him unable to walk or talk or feed himself. He was in the hospital (in two hospitals, actually) for over six months, and ever since has lived with us at home. I thought I would share some of the lessons I've learned in these past 15 years:
