Have you heard of Supercavitation?
Where have you been? Ok, well I hadn't heard of it either. HERE is the wikipedia entry explaining what it is. Basically; it's kinda like breaking the sound barrier under water. Until recently no one has been able to do it in a controllable way (like on a torpedo). Apparently Russia has done it. What does this mean? Well, the old torpedoes could go between 40 - 60 miles per hour, the VA-111 Shkvall can go 250 mph. That's a big deal.
There is even a science fiction game, TV show, websites, etc, all devoted to "Supercavitation" technology.
-You probably don't care, but I thought it was interesting (a little scary that these are being sold to China) Oh yeah - Germany is close to having one. I'm sure (or I hope) that the US already has one!
Interesting side note is that rumors have it that Russia was testing this technology when the Kursk sank.
